Live Writer – keep your local drafts after re-install

I recently ran a clean install of Windows 8, which meant all the more or less important stuff scattered around my old Windows 7 instance disappeared. And that’s ok, that’s why I didn’t just upgrade and kept all my rubbish files. I always keep my previous OS installation somewhere though, usually on a separate partition just in case I’ve forgotten to save something that turns out to be important.

Anyway, I had a few unpublished blog drafts that I obviously lost when reinstalling Live Writer in the new environment. I found out that these (and also recently published ones) were just stored in the My Documents folder under my profile, so I just copied the contents over from my old OS drive to the corresponding folder under Windows 8.

Anyone with half a brain could work that one out, but at least the information is here for those who need it.
