Active Sync – Account added, server unreachable

We’ve had a recurring problem on users(especially admins) being able to add their account on active sync, set up everything to sync and all looks good. But alas, when they try to enter mail, they get “Server unreachable” or similar.

Simple solution, which applies when you try to add domain users as Lync users, try to allow your admins to set up active sync, or simply something you should fix when moving users around OUs:

  • Go Active Directory Users & Computers (Enable Advanced Features if needed)
  • Open the properties of the user that is having the issue
  • Click on the Security Tab
  • Click the Advanced button
  • In the Default Permissions tab check the box at the bottom for “Include inheritable permissions from this object’s parent”
  • Wait for AD to propagate (5-10 minutes)
  • Try again
